Product Development Engineer

The Product Development Engineer is responsible for product design, manufacturing engineering, and injection mold process engineering for new product development.  The employee will research, design, engineer, and develop new innovative products, according to marketing specifications, and their respective manufacturing processes, and equipment, primarily for the transportation market.  The main responsibilities include:

  •  Research and recommend materials, manufacturing processes, or design technologies
  • Innovate  engineered solutions to meet customer or marketing specifications
  • Use CAD, mold flow and FEA to create and communicate design concepts, and engineered solutions
  • Use Lean methodology to implement product design solutions, including conducting value stream analysis, value enhancement, and waste reduction in our processes and products
  • Make calculations, tolerance stack-ups, sketches, material selections, and utilize good plastics and machine design practices to design products and tools
  • Make, part and assembly drawings and bill of materials
  • Professionally communicate with internal & external customers throughout the development process.   
  • Get the product to market on time, on budget, correct the first time

Position Requirements:

A BS Degree in Plastics Engineering or equivalent is required.  Candidates must have advanced CAD software skills with 3 years experience as a design engineer of injection molded products.   Competent Solidworks CAD software skills with 1 to 2 years experience are also required.  Lean training is preferred among candidates.  One to two years experience in an engineering, mold building, and injection molding processes, required.  Candidates must be motivated, innovative, stable, self confident, and professional.  Technical writing skills are required along with good verbal communication skills.  Candidates should have software skills in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and digital photo editing along with being proficient with Internet Search Engines and navigating websites.  Capable and willing to travel by vehicle or airplane up to approximately two times per month.
